This year, VTDigger is teaming up with Henry’s Weather Channel to help answer the annual question of when and where peak foliage will make its appearance across the state.

Each week, we’ll bring you an updated look at how foliage is unfolding statewide, paired with a weekend forecast, so you can plan your drive, hike or porch-sitting accordingly. Henry brings meteorological experience and on-the-ground reporting with photos and videos from across the region.

It’s that time of year, folks. The leaves are off the trees, but it’s not quite time to get out your skis. Though the shoulder season is an awkward time of year for Vermont, the sunny and dry streak will continue into the weekend.

Here’s your final fall foliage and weather outlook of the year.

Hello to November

Another beautiful weekend is ahead across Vermont. We have had plenty of sunshine lately, and that will continue this weekend as we flip the calendar to November on Sunday.

Halloween is Saturday, and the weather looks perfect if a little chilly. Highs will be in the upper 40s to low 50s with calm winds. Low temperatures on Halloween night are expected to drop into the 20s to low 30s. Cold! Sunday will warm up, with highs in the 50s to near 60. Expect plenty of sunshine and calm winds.

The first few weeks of November will bring above-average temperatures to New England. The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center’s six-to-10-day outlook and eight-to-14-day outlook both show above-average temperatures through the first few weeks of November.

Don’t forget to set your clocks back 1 hour on Sunday.

Until next year …

Current foliage across the state is past peak as expected for this time of year. It was a fantastic fall foliage season with the perfect conditions to make those colors vibrant. I hope you all enjoyed October’s ideal weather.

Henry Swenson of Henry’s Weather Channel is a self-taught storm chaser, weather forecaster and drone videographer based in New England. He is known for his live storm coverage and tracking and has been delivering accurate weather forecasts to the region since 2017. For this partnership, Henry brings his mobile weather station and boots-on-the-ground approach to track fall foliage as it moves across the state.
